Random Rings

I like rings.

Alot.

Possibly way more than any other form of wearable art. I think it's because hands themselves are so expressive and by adorning them we draw attention to this fact. I mean, havn't there been times when you've been chatting with a 'hand talker' and lost track of the verbal conversation because you were so mesmerized by their hand movements?

Anyways, these are some production pieces that don't quite have a home in any of the lines. Yet.

Oh, and wait..... Here are some that aren't production:

these are part of a series of rings I created based on phobias- the idea being that the rings would function as totemic, talismanic objects, protecting the wearer from harm. I suppose it also looks at the idea of our mental & emotional baggage- a visible reminder of the objects and attachments that define how we navigate the world.

Kerf* rings

1. A groove or notch made by a cutting tool, such as a saw or an ax.
2. The width of a groove made by a cutting tool.

Obviously in reference to the cut-out on the backside of this rather unique ring. Like the Evolve* series it's basically two things in one.

With the Base (cut-out) side up it looks solid, heavy and almost armour-like.

Flip it around and the rind suddenly becomes light and delicate and very pretty. Right now the riveted bar changes according to... my mood? A whim? What metal I can find on my bench that day? It can be either sterling, brass, or a combination of both- your choice or mine, depending how much you care, or like surprises I suppose.

Anyways, this experiment might be my favourite to date.

Oh, and these copper ones are just studio patterns (not for sale, unless you like having greeeny-black fingers) but they are here to give you a sense of the two shapes of band- one is a half- circle (almost) with one straight edge and one curved, while the other is an elipse- both edges are curved. They're (maybe surprisingly) equally comfortable- just a slightly different look.

O-Ring* Series!

These are made with inky-black rubber o-rings, originally for kitchen faucets, I think.

the disc is 1 1/2 cm across.

The contrast- soft black with the hard, polished silver looks fantastic, and as a bonus you get to play 20 questions with everyone who asks you what material your lovely jewellery could possibly be made from.

Junebug ring

Another addition to the Evoke* line, this ring is cute and fun and a little quirky.

Hand-stippled acrylic top (slightly dished on top to add some extra visual interest) with two moveable sterling silver 'legs'.

It kinda reminds you of those lovely little ladybugs you ooohhd and aaahhd over as a little kid- so nifty and pretty and sweet.

Only this one you can take home and keep.

Once again, I went super high-tech with this line. Sheet wax and screwdriver bits. Oh, and a drywall plug.

It turned out rather well though, and, like the Evolve* series, can be worn multiple ways. That's right- it's REVERSIBLE!

One side is very organic,

the other very modern and geometric- an 'echo' of the first side.

There are 2 pendants Earrings. Technically these are reversible, but since you need to bend the earwire to flip them it's easier to specify which design you would prefer facing forward

Band rings.

Don't be fooled by the 2 pictures- they're the same rings. I just thought I should continue with the double layout. And I thought maybe the backgrounds worked to highlight each side of the design; the defined geometric vs. soft organic.Anyways....

Unfortunately it's pretty hard to bend silver (and re-attach it), so you are forced to choose which pattern you prefer. Both patterns are also available on a wide band if you ask nicely.

It's a little less than double the width of the other band

Wrap rings.

A wide one and a not so wide one. The wider of the two is slightly flared at both ends to help prevent the dreaded 'my wide-band-ring-is stuck-now-my-finger-looks-like-a-snausage' phenomenon.

Oh, and at this time the wrap rings are only available in the organic version.

*** There is also a bracelet (sorry! The pic is coming) If you can picture the earring pieces as links in a chain that encircles your wrist.... That the bracelet.

Roundness. Circles and Holes.
A balancing of form and line, shape and space.
Recognition of the beauty in a void.

This is the quite stunning link necklace. Approximately 18" long. Every link handmade.A single link from the larger necklace, strung on a sterling cable chain. It's the beauty of a dewdrop vs. a deluge. The accompanying bracelet.
A lovely and very unique ring.

the band which encircles your finger begins outside the drop and terminates inside. it sound odd, but it looks great and fits beautifully.

The rest of the drop earrings. Which you'll notice are studs. And yes, I give full credit to Tim Hortons and their timbits for opening my eyes to the brilliant concept of using the leftovers- the holes. Yet another use for the 'holes'.

These are stem earrings.

They look like little flowers in your ears. The post, or stem, has a gentle curve which both looks good and holds the earring securely in place- eliminating the need for a keeper. These are available with a smooth bowl or with a centre ball (which adds to the flower effect) in silver, or with a black patina.

Personally, I think they're just super cool and small and incredibly detailed and it makes me smile when I wear them.

A variety of shapes to suit. Alas, they don't all come together like this, it's simply a display device. Each one does come with a super heavy sterling silver snake chain though.

I really like this series. it's solid and has a sense of weight and strength to it, and yet is still somehow bright and energetic. If a Mark Rothko painting had a late night rendevouz with a Jackson Pollock this might be the result.

Evolve* (ring/pendants)

This is what happens when you're an insomniac and it's 3am and you have access to studio tools.

The name- Evolve*- refers to both the visual evolution of the pieces and to the development of a concept.

The pieces technically begin with the circle, and then 'evolve' from there. In the spirit of this endeavour I wanted them to somehow seem alive, which is why, if you squint your eyes a bit, you could imagine tails, legs, beaks... and stuff. A Tim Burton wacky wonderland of semi-animate shapes.

It's occured to me over the years that being useful is good. I really like well designed, functional things. What I like even more are things that perform multiple functions. This makes me positively giddy. (like when I was a kid I thought that the Swiss army knife was the coolest thing ever).

So I made rings.

That are actually pendants.

Or work together to create a multi-part necklace.

So cool.

You've probably noticed that all of these pieces have a bunch of holes. This is so they can be chained in a variety of positions. Just to keep life interesting.

Should you wish to own one (or many) of these, they are available in sizes 4 to 10. I can go bigger, but it would have to be made by hand and might cost a little extra, and take a little longer.

Extra Evoke* Pieces

The Evoke* Bracelet.

Fully hand-carved from recycled plexiglass sheet.

The standard inside diameter is 3" (about 7.5 cm), but it can be enlarged or scaled down to suit your needs.

In any sort of dim light it has a luminous quality, which always puts me in mind of those crazy undersea fish that live at depths that would crush 99.9% of everything else on earth and phosphoresce (glow) in order to attract food. I'm not quite sure why we're exploring space when we have unbelievably complicated and alien life-forms just a few miles down from us. And I bet if we looked hard enough while down there we would find those Sea Monkey Castles too. And all the little Sea Monkeys would actually come out and wave, unlike the cheap and apparently unfriendly ones you got in those little kits as a kid.

Evoke* earrings - part 2

these are the satellite drop earrings. Like the originals, only totally reconfigured. People LOVE these as they are almost weightless.

Oh, and these ones (along with the original satellites, aren't acrylic- they're some sort of thin, stiff-but-still-flexi type of plastic. Used for drafting/pattern making I think.

Lantern earrings. These are really, really impressive. They balance perfectly in your ear, are almost weightless, and just look breathtaking. Sophisticated, with a hint of oriental flair.

Evoke* Rings

The satellite ring. No, it's not kinetic, but it does look like it's orbiting your hand. Which, obviously, makes you the centre of the universe.

This is the Chiseled ring. Possibly my favourite. It seems so strong somehow. Puts me in mind of frozen places. With Vikings.
The Wave ring- a nice, soft contrast to the Viking ring!
The Large Disc. Something vaguely UFO-ish about it.

That or James Bond-ish. It seems that you could use it to teleport. Or tallk to Moneypenny. Or blow things up. All useful, I'm sure.

Evoke* Necklaces

This Is the Evoke* line.

It's made from hand-carved, recyled plexiglass and sterling silver.
It's beautiful.
It's light and airy and yet has a solidity and density to it that I just love. The juxtaposition of the semi-transluscent plastic with the solidity and visual weight of the silver is striking.

They are all fair-sized, measuring between 2-3", and all come with a deliciously heavy sterling silver chain.

There is a large ans small Galaxy necklace. Hopefully this gives you an idea of the relative sizes. I also just want to point out that I've had that ruler in the picture since elementary school. that somehow shocks and amazes me. Both the fact that I still have something that old, and that it's THAT old.
